The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) celebrated World Pharmacists Day with a ceremony organized by its Pharmacists Association at the Faculty of Pharmacy. The event drew academics, alumni, and industry professionals from across the country.

Professor Dr. Muhammad Kamran, Vice Chancellor of IUB, was the chief guest, emphasizing the critical role of pharmacists in the healthcare sector. “Education and training are the cornerstones of effective teaching, and pharmacists, with their pivotal role, are the backbone of the healthcare sector,” he said. “The Faculty of Pharmacy hosts outstanding teachers, students, and alumni. It is the university's crown, and every effort will be made to advance this sector, addressing challenges while setting a path for development.”

The event, which revolved around this year’s World Pharmacists Day theme, “Think Health, Think Pharmacits,” featured a diverse range of speakers. These included the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences Professor Dr. Qaiser Jaben, Professor Dr. Asadullah Madani, and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Atif, Director of the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC). The presence of former Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar, former Dean Professor Dr. Rao Saeed Ahmed, and Dr. Asad Abrar, Director of the Drug Testing Lab, alongside Chief Pharmacist Dr. Maria, senior faculty from pharmaceutical companies, alums, and students, ensured a comprehensive coverage of the theme.

Participants noted the increasing importance of pharmacists in a rapidly evolving global healthcare landscape. “In today’s era, with nations facing health challenges and workforce shortages, pharmacists are more crucial than ever,” attendees said. “They are the backbone of drug safety.”

The Department of Pharmacy at IUB has long been recognized nationally and internationally for its outstanding contributions to pharmaceutical education and research. It offers programs at the Bachelor's, MPhil, and PhD levels. The strong turnout of pharmacists and industry representatives underscored the university’s central role in shaping the country’s pharmaceutical sector and its global reputation in the field.
