Autism And Society

Almost everyone knows something about Autism, heard the name or read something about its symptoms, but the true fact if the matter is that autism is not known and that it is kept only for the friends and families of those how are and have been affected by this condition.

In the widest and most general description Autism is a mental condition, mainly effecting the ability to communicate and focus attention on what sometimes seems like an inability to show affection and feeling towards others. One of the most popular ways of defining autism is that the autistic person is detached from the environment, it is like having a glass wall between you and the autistic who you are trying to communicate.

Autism has been the cause for many studies and a lot of experimentation, it has many scientists and psychologists working all their lives to try and understand this mystery better, to try and ease the suffering of the families and relatives of autistics everywhere, in getting this wall down, improving the communication and help improve that life quality of autistics.

There are different levels of autism, usually even before diagnosing the seriousness of the condition you can have several indications of the severity of the condition, many parents confirm that they already had an idea of some kind of neurological problem or a mental condition in their mind a few months after the baby was born. When a baby is diagnosed as suffering from autism the next step is to find a second opinion, not because the doctor might be wrong, but to reconfirm the diagnosis and to learn more about autism, as well as averaging the level of autism the person has.

Biomedical Autism Treatment – What to Do to Help Your Autistic Child Recover

Biomedical autism treatment for a child with an autism-spectrum disorder (ASD) is a journey that can reap huge rewards to you as you watch your child improve or even completely recover from his or her disorder. Although no guarantees for complete reversal and recovery can be made, parents and caregivers who are most successful in implementing biomedical autism treatments for their children are those who are fully committed to the process.

I have seen hundreds of patient families dealing with a child with an ASD and this experience has given me insight as to how parents can maximize the effectiveness of their child’s treatment. I thought it would be helpful to take key aspects from successes I have had with families and offer them as tips for how to best engage in biomedical autism treatment. Attitude Understand that the goal of a biomedical approach to ASD is to optimize your child’s health potential with the hope that recovery is achieved. In many kids their condition IS reversible. Believe that recovery is possible. No one can convince you that the biomedical approach for your autism-spectrum child is worthwhile. You must come to this conclusion for yourself. If you do not believe that a biomedical approach to treating ASD has merit, then you ultimately will not be successful in helping your child with this approach. Get Informed – read, listen, and do research.

Biomedical Autism Treatment – How it All Began

The biomedical autism treatment movement for autism-spectrum disorders (ASD) got its start from an organization in San Diego, CA. called the Autism Research Institute, founded by the late Bernard Rimland, Ph.D. (1928-2006). Dr. Rimland had always felt that autism and its related disorders had its roots in biological causation (aka. biomedical) – meaning there was an underlying medical reason for a child’s autism, as opposed to the prevailing attitude that autism is just a neurodevelopment disorder.

After much study and research Dr. Rimland became an advocate for the use of high dose vitamin B6 along magnesium to support the biochemical challenges facing autistic individuals. This simple combination of nutritional supplements helped with many of the cognitive problems seen commonly in autism. In fact, in some autistic children, teenagers and adults who have tried this therapy it can work in helping to improve their eye contact and speech development, along with less hyperactivity and awareness deficits. Overtime, Dr. Rimland began to collaborate with like-minded professionals such as physicians who were also using vitamin and mineral therapies in their practices to assist the health of their chronically ill patients, some of whom were on the autism-spectrum. From these early efforts in biomedical autism treatment, the Defeat Autism Now organization was born.
